Weißmann and Breitenecker: "Cooperation instead of competition on the domestic media market"

Grand final day at the 4GAMECHANGERS Festival: Under the motto "The Power of Cooperation", ORF and the ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 Group held a ceremonial opening today. ORF Director General Roland Weißmann and 4GAMECHANGERS founder and ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 CEO Markus Breitenecker emphasized the importance of cooperation in the domestic media market during their joint appearance at the morning media focus. In addition to the joint organization of the 4GAMECHANGERS Festival, the two media companies also achieved an important step forward with the launch of the SuperStreamer Joyn, which unites public and private broadcasters in a free streaming platform. The two media managers emphasize that "cooperation is needed instead of competition in the domestic media market.

ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 CEO Markus Breitenecker: "In the past, private and public broadcasters were in competition. Now there is a new situation, the Silicon Valley giants are conquering the media market. This makes it necessary for us domestic media to rethink together and work together in a cooperative media system, whether private, public, print media or radio, and defend our quality standards."

ORF Director General Roland Weißmann: "As a result of the new challenges and the new platform strategy, there are suddenly opportunities for cooperation that would have been unthinkable just a short time ago. We are taking a new approach to cooperation. This gives us a chance to face the challenges of the future."

Vienna's City Councillor for Finance Peter Hanke presented the City of Vienna's media initiative in the Fireside Chat with ORF presenter Alexandra Wachter.

How media reinvent themselves in times of digital expansion was discussed by ProSiebenSat.1 Media Group CEO Bert Habets, ORF Program Director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz, Volker Libovsky (Magenta Telekom), Tobias Henning (TikTok) and Andreas Briese (Youtube), moderated by Corinna Milborn (PULS 24).

Bert Habets, CEO of ProSiebenSat.1 Media Group: "It is great that ProSiebenSat.1 PULS 4 and ORF are standing together on this stage and announcing the cooperation on Joyn. I admire the energy and the proactive way we work together as public and private broadcasters. We need to discuss how we prepare and reshape the dual system of private and public broadcasters for the future. That essentially means how we organize our streaming efforts together. For me, Austria is a role model for how we can work much closer together as an industry."

ORF Program Director Stefanie Groiss-Horowitz calls for responsibility from all digital players in light of the rise of fakenews and hate speech: "It takes commitment from all platforms to live up to their responsibility."
