Sven Bulterijs

PhD student / Co-president // Ghent University & Heales VZW

Sven Bulterijs is currently completing his PhD in the Laboratory of Aging Physiology and Molecular Evolution at Ghent University, Belgium. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biochemistry and biotechnology. His research is centered on identifying drugs that decelerate aging in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans. Additionally, Sven co-founded and co-presides over Heales, a European NGO dedicated to advancing aging biology research. In his capacity there, he has helped organize multiple international conferences in Brussels, bringing together leading experts to discuss the latest advancements in the field. Sven also completed a research internship in Professor David Spiegel’s laboratory at Yale University, where he focused on the protein crosslink glucosepane, which is believed to play a causal role in the aging process. He has authored several papers in peer-reviewed journals, contributed to various TV documentaries, and is frequently sought by the Belgian media for insights into new research findings.
