(F)Empower the Change

"After decades of progress in women's equality, the current developments are worrying. The rights of women and girls are currently being increasingly restricted worldwide. This is the current finding of the UN Population Fund. In two out of five countries, women's sexual self-determination is declining and in the USA, the Supreme Court overturned the constitutionally guaranteed right to abortion in 2023. A lot has happened in Austria since the Equal Treatment Act of 1993. Nevertheless, we are still at the top of the gender pay gap, women in this country are more affected by poverty in old age, perform the majority of care work and, in addition, there are more femicides in Austria than in any other European country. In Iceland, women went on strike for equal rights back in 1975 and paralyzed the economy of the country with a population of 370,000. Is a strike the last resort? What exactly is needed to empower women in the workplace and in society? And are politicians even working on the right issues for women? Begonia Merayo, Founder & Managing Director Why Consult, Maria Rauch-Kallat, CEO mrk diversity management, Nicole Reitinger, CFO IKEA Austria, Maimuna Mosser, Country Director Google Austria, Lara Pyko, Head of People & Organization Siemens Austria, and Susanne Erkens-Reck, General Manager Roche Austria, discuss these issues."
