Free Journalism - the protection of ideology-free information

The importance of freedom of expression and objective, fact-based journalism has once again been brought home to us involuntarily in recent months. The months of the current war between Russia and Ukraine have taught us that access to objective and reliable journalism, which is often taken for granted in our country and should be free from political and commercial influence, is absolutely not a matter of course. There are still countries and systems that undercut freedom of expression, hide information and censor essential content. But who pays for quality when consumers receive free (largely unverified) content? Social media has a high status in this discourse, which must be viewed critically. The sequel to the non-fiction bestseller "Change the Game" by Corinna Milborn and Markus Breitenecker is now being discussed at the 4GAMECHANGERS Festival. It is becoming increasingly important to offer viewers, users and digital users the opportunity to gain access to verified information and sound knowledge. Caution is absolutely essential, as propaganda and disinformation have found a platform in social networks. This will be discussed at Rosa Lyon (ORF): Max Katz, Anita Zielina (journalist), Raffaela Schaidreiter (ORF foreign correspondent) and Esther Wojcicki (journalist & educator).
