Samuel Oteng

Researcher & Community Engangement Mangager // The Or Foundation

Sammy Oteng is a researcher, community engagement manager and manager at the No More Fast Fashion Lab in Accra. Sammy studied fashion design at Radford University College in Accra and has been repurposing secondhand pieces for over a decade which has since become a defining factor within his practice. His work has been featured in British Vogue, Italian Vogue, iD and was a finalist at the Gucci Design Fellowship. Sammy worked with several brands as lead creative where he espoused a more sustainable approach towards design through a Ghanaian lens which positions experts from the informal sector. Within his work he is keen on making a socio-political statement, exploring issues of neo-colonialism, sexuality and gender fluidity. Prior to joining The Or team Sammy led a research project on secondhand clothing consumer behavior in Accra. Sammy spends several days in Kantamanto every week conducting research and forming new connections between The Or Foundation’s No More Fast Fashion Lab and the broader Kantamanto community. His engagement with the Kantamanto community has given him a broader understanding of human connections and kindness.
