Jody Williams, an outspoken American political activist since the Vietnam War, is passionate about disarmament, human security, human rights and protecting all life on this planet to create sustainable peace with justice and equality. In 1997, Williams and the International Campaign to Ban Landmines (ICBL), which she cofounded and coordinated, the shared Nobel Peace Prize for their work leading to the 1997 Mine Ban Treaty. In their announcement of the prize, the Norwegian Nobel Committee described the groundbreaking nature of that work, proving prescient about its impact.
