Professional Tennis Player // Dominic Thiem

Dominic Thiem is a professional tennis player from Austria. He reached his career high of No. 3 in the ATP rankings in 2020 and was consistently ranked in the top 10 from June 2016 to November 2021.

Born on September 3, 1993 in Wiener Neustadt (45 km south of Vienna) and raised in a small village called Lichtenwörth, Dominic started playing tennis at the age of four. He later played his way up to second place in the ITF junior world rankings.

Dominic has won 17 professional titles, including one Grand Slam, the 2020 US Open, where he defeated German Alexander Zverev in a five-set thriller. He has made it to the final in three other Grand Slams; twice at the French Open and in 2020 at the Australian Open.

With a record of 9-3 wins and losses in the 2019-2020 season against Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer, he is one of only two players with at least five wins against each of the "Big 3".

He prefers to play his forehand as it is extremely effective and fast to wear down his opponents. He has won ten of his titles on clay, which is by far his favorite surface. He loves to hit powerful and fast winners - he is known all over the world for his beautiful backhand down-the-line shot.

Thiem is an athlete who stands out for his commitment to sustainability, focusing in particular on ocean conservation and other environmental issues. Not only does he support the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) in Austria and wears the Adidas X Parley collection, which is made from recycled plastic from the ocean, but he is also constantly raising his voice for positive environmental change.
