Dr. Theodor Thanner is Director General of the Austrian competition authority since 2007. He is a member of the Data Protection Council, an associate judge at the Austrian Federal Administration Court, a board member of the Viennese Legal Society and the Austrian Administrative Society and a member of the board of trustees of the Research Institute for Economic Order and Competition. He is author of numerous publications on Constitutional Law, Cartel Law and Administrative Law and a lecturer in Cartel Law at the Universities of Vienna and Zürich.
The Austrian Competition Authority is responsible to ensure and maintain a fair competition in Austria. With the means at its disposal, such as merger control, detection and prosecution of cartel agreements and the abuse of market power or general market research and sector inquiries.
