In 1999 Karoline Edtstadler started to study law at the Paris-Lodron-University in Salzburg and graduated in 2004. In the years 2008 to 2011 Edtstadler worked as a judge at the Regional Court in Salzburg, thereafter she was seconded for three years to the Federal Ministry of Justice, and from 2014 to 2016 she was policy adviser in the cabinet of the Minister of Justice. From 2016 to 2017 Edtstadler was seconded to the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Since 18 December 2017, she is State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior. Her responsibilities include the subject matters of civilian service, of preventing and combating corruption, of the Mauthausen Memorial and of war graves care.
