In December 2017, Hartwig Löger became Austria’s Federal Minister for Finance. He originally started his career in the insurance sector. Working in various positions within the industry, including as an assistant to the management at Grazer Wechselseitige and sales manager at Donau Versicherung AG, he gained expert knowledge in insurance and finance. In 2002 he joined the UNIQA Insurance Group, first as managing director of UNIQA International Versicherungs-Holding GmbH and later, from 2011, as head of the exclusive sales department.
In 2011 he became senior corporate officer at UNIQA and CEO of UNIQA Austria. From 2014 to February 2018, Löger also served as president of the Sports Union. On 18 December 2017, Hartwig Löger was sworn in by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen as a Federal Minister. Mr Löger is married and father of two children.
The Ministry of Finance is responsible for revenue administration at federal level, which includes the government budget, taxes, duties and tariffs.
