High prices, exploding energy costs and an inflation rate High prices, exploding energy costs and an inflation rate of 11.2%, which reached its highest level in 70 years in Austria in January 2023. Life is getting more and more expensive, and no social class seems to be spared by now. And a bitter taste remains, because the poorest are becoming even poorer, the middle class is leaning toward the lower income and the upper class is losing relatively little. Now the critical question arises as to how consumers are still to shoulder the rising costs and how can a further drifting apart of the classes be prevented? Policymakers are now called upon to take action before livelihoods are threatened! What do they look like? Is the solution, for example, an unconditional basic income? There are some approaches, the realistic implementation must now follow.
