"With full gas into the crisis?" Is the light (and the heating) going out in Europe?

The war in Ukraine has put the issue of energy and security of supply at the top of the agenda. Gas has gone from being a cheap energy source to a high-priced spoiler, while coal and nuclear power are celebrating a comeback. While companies and consumers are groaning under the high costs, utilities are posting record results. This in turn is prompting politicians to impose a special tax on windfall profits. And, quite incidentally, the switch to renewable energy is also supposed to succeed.

So what choices do we have, what are the costs, what are the legal implications? And, last but not least, how is the financial market reacting to the sharp headwinds blowing against Europe in the wake of the war in Ukraine?
